CBDVA
CBDV's raw precursor
Cannabinoid
What is CBDVA?
CBDVA (cannabidivarinic acid) is the acidic, raw form of CBDV — the plant stores it this way before heat or time converts it. It's found in small amounts in some cannabis strains, particularly certain landrace sativas.
Effects
CBDVA is non-intoxicating, and interest in it mostly follows its decarboxylated form, CBDV. Early research on the family points toward anticonvulsant and anti-inflammatory potential. CBDVA itself is rarely studied in isolation, but one notable 2022 study found both CBDVA and CBGVA inhibited T-type calcium channels — a mechanism relevant to seizures and pain.
Research note
When you see CBDVA on a COA, it's a sign the flower was tested fresh — heat converts it to CBDV before consumption.
