Trans-Ocimene
Sweet, herbal — the common ocimene
Terpene
What is trans-ocimene?
Trans-ocimene is the most common form of ocimene — the same sweet, herbaceous monoterpene covered in its own guide, with the 'trans' form being the one labs usually detect. Its aroma is sweet, herbal, and lightly minty with a citrus edge.
Effects
Like ocimene, trans-ocimene is associated with uplifting, energetic profiles and shows early evidence of antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory activity. On a COA, seeing 'trans-ocimene' rather than 'ocimene' is simply a more specific label for the same compound.
Research note
If you see both 'ocimene' and 'trans-ocimene' on a report, they refer to the same terpene family — the lab is just distinguishing the isomer. Trans-beta-ocimene is a dominant compound in many cannabis essential oils, and studies of those oils found it contributes to their antimicrobial activity. Reviews of cannabis terpenoids group it with the common anti-inflammatory, antioxidant monoterpenes.
